David Crosby and Friends Hold Benefit Concert For Musicambia

Musicambia presents a benefit concert, featuring an intimate performance by two-time Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee David Crosby and friends on Saturday, April 21st at the Cutting Room in NYC.

The acclaimed folk rock pioneer Crosby will be joined by special guests Mike League (of Snarky Puppy), Becca Stevens, Michelle Willis and others TBA.

All proceeds from this event will support Musicambia's transformative music programming in United States Prisons and Jails. Founded in 2014 by violist and composer, Nathan Schram, Musicambia brings music learning and ensemble performance to prisons throughout the United States. Through working closely with incarcerated individuals on performance, music theory, ear training and composition, our professional musicians build artistic communities that nurture the humanity of all involved.

David Crosby co-founded the pioneering folk-rock band the Byrds in 1964. Later in the decade he teamed with Stephen Stills and Graham Nash to form Crosby, Stills & Nash, with Neil Young joining the group for stretches.
David Crosby has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice: once for his work in The Byrds and once for his work with CSN. Five albums he contributed to are included in Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, three with the Byrds and two with CSN(Y)

Musicambia brings music learning and ensemble performance to prisons throughout the United States. Through working closely with incarcerated individuals on performance, music theory, ear training and composition, our professional musicians build artistic communities that nurture the humanity of all involved.

Musicambia uses the power of music to build supportive communities where incarcerated individuals can build human connections, engage in learning and rebuild their lives. Through performance and creation, participants develop self-confidence, positive self-image, and communication skills. By sharing their skills, musicians grow as teachers and citizens committed to humanizing our justice system.

Musicambia's flagship program at Sing Sing Correctional Facility in Ossining, New York is currently in its 4th season. We're also planning return visits to our programs in South Carolina and Indiana. Our sights are now set to work with new facilities in Indiana and New York State, including Rikers Island and Fishkill Correctional Facility.

At Sing Sing, we have a slowly expanding group of 32 men which includes students who started with us at our inception and others who joined in each of the seasons that followed. These students continue to produce astounding works of music of emotional and intellectual depth as well as develop their musical and instrumental skills in boundless ways. The administration at Sing Sing has reported a 100-person waitlist to join our program.
