Dancer Judith Jamison to Receive Montblanc de la Culture Arts Patronage Award 3/22

Judith Jamison, Artistic Director of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, will be announced as the Honoree of the Montblanc de la Culture Arts Patronage Award at a ceremony on March 22, 2010 at The Joan Weill Center for Dance in New York.

The award will be presented by Lang Lang, Chairman of the Montblanc Cultural Foundation, to Judith Jamison in honor and recognition of her role as a dedicated patron of the arts, both as Artistic Director of one of America's greatest dance institutions but also for bringing dance to a wider audience.

The Montblanc de la Culture Arts Patronage Award was established in 1992 to honor and support patrons of the arts who have given exceptional time and energy to artists and their work. To be chosen, a winning patron has to demonstrate both a history of personal commitment to the arts but also a concern that the wider public should benefit as a result of that support. Previous winners of the Award in the US include Susan Sarandon (2008), Wynton Marsalis (2007), Rebecca Neuwirth (2006), John Sykes (2001).

About Montblanc de la Culture Patronage Award

-The international jury for the Montblanc de la Culture Arts Patronage Award 2010 includes Saffron Burrows, Alan Gilbert, Jorge Pardo and Jean Reno
-The Montblanc Patron of the Arts edition 2010 is dedicated to Queen Elizabeth I. Produced as a limited edition fountain pen, the Queen Elizabeth I edition is limited to 888 pieces in 750 solid white gold, with a mother-of- pearl cap and barrel, and to 4810 pieces with a tiger's eye barrel, gold plated fittings and a cap and cone made from precious black resin.
-Each winner of the Montblanc de la Culture Arts Patronage Award receives $20,000 to give to an arts project of their choice and a solid gold, limited edition Patron of the Arts Montblanc fountain pen specially designed and built for winners of the Montblanc Awards
-The aim of all international Montblanc sponsorship projects in the areas of literature, dance, music and art is to make a contribution to the cultural enrichment of society and to create a synthesis between cultural life and writing culture
