DREAMGIRLS Opens Next Week at Playhouse on the Square

Playhouse on the Square, in partnership with Gene and Carol Katz, CrimeStoppers, SunTrust Bank, and in loving memory of Happy Jones and Fred Terry, is proud to once again bring this Broadway hit to stage in the epicenter of music, Memphis, TN.

Featuring the classic songs 'And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going,' 'One Night Only,' and 'Listen' Dreamgirls follows the journey of a young female singing group from Chicago and will transport you to a revolutionary time in American music history. The trio 'The Dreams' must learn the tough lesson that show business and stardom isn't always as glamorous as it seems.

Starring as 'The Dreams' are Latisha Henderson as Deena, Zan Edwards as Lorrell, and Breyannah Tillman as Effie White. Napoleon Douglas returns to Playhouse on the Square as James "Thunder" Early after previously appearing as Seaweed in Playhouse on the Square's production of Hairspray (2014).

Debuting on Broadway at the Imperial Theatre December 20, 1981, Dreamgirls was nominated for 13 Tony Awards, including Best Performance by a Leading Actress, Best Choreography, Best Performance by a Featured Actor, and Best Musical. It was later adapted into a major motion picture in 2006 starring Jamie Foxx, Beyonce, Eddie Murphy, and Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson.
