Cynthia Nixon to Host Tony Honors Ceremony, 10/24

Cynthia Nixon will host The American Theatre Wing and the League of American Theatres and Producers' presentation of the 2006 Tony Honors for Excellence.  Presenters will include Tony-winners Angela Lansbury, Manny Azenberg, Andre DeShields, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty.

The event will take place at Tavern on the Green at October 24th.  It is closed to the public.

As previously announced, the Tony Honors will be presented to BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop; Forbidden Broadway and its creator, Gerard  Alessandrini; Samuel (Biff) Liff, Senior Vice President of the William Morris Agency and Ellen Stewart, Founder/Director of La MaMa E.T.C, this year.

Established in 1990, The Tony Honors for Excellence in the Theatre are awarded annually by the Tony Administration Committee to institutions, individuals and/or organizations that have demonstrated extraordinary achievement in theatre, but are not eligible in any of the established Tony Award® categories.   

The American Theatre Wing's Antoinette Perry "Tony" Awards are presented by the League of American Theatres and Producers and the American Theatre Wing. At the League, Gerald Schoenfeld is Chairman and Charlotte St. Martin is Executive Director. At the Wing, Sondra Gilman is Chairman, Doug Leeds is President and Howard Sherman is Executive Director. For Tony Award Productions, Elizabeth I. McCann is Managing Producer and Joey Parnes is Coordinating Producer.

The 61st annual Tony Awards will be held on June 10th at Radio City Music Hall.
