Performing one of her latest singles, award-winning singer-songwriter and Broadway veteran Deborah Cox will take the stage alongside Broadway's brightest stars, who will perform original new works created by leading composers in a spectacular concert to benefit a new non-profit, Broadway in South Africa on Monday, October 5th at 7:30pm at Peter Norton Symphony Space.

BSA's mission is to develop cross-cultural exchange between youth in need and Broadway artists who seek to use their talents for change. They provide arts education to underprivileged youth in South Africa who may otherwise have no other outlet to explore their creative potential.

This second annual concert will feature world-premiere songs created by acclaimed composers, such as Deborah Abramson, Scott Alan with Shoshana Bean, Jeff Bowen, Craig Carnelia, Matt Gould, Joe Iconis, Daniel Larsen, Joel B., Selloane Nkhela, Ryan Scott Oliver and Katie Thompson.

Songs will be performed by a host of Broadway stars including:

Shoshana Bean (Wicked)

Asmeret Ghebremichael (Spamalot)

Darius de Haas (Kiss of the Spiderwoman)

Frankie James Grande (Mamma Mia, Mr. Broadway 2007)

Adam Kantor (Rent)

Kate Shindle (Legally Blonde, Former Miss America).

This star-studded evening will feature a guest performance by the South African cast members of The Lion King on Broadway. It will also feature a special concert dance piece choreographed by Charles O. Anderson, artistic director and founder of Dance Theater X. Jen Bender (The Lion King) will be the evening's director.

Each song premiered at the concert will be based on stories written by BSA students who participated in the four-day arts intensive workshop held last January at JL Zwane Centre & Church in Gugulethu Township, Cape Town. Approximately 60 students (ages 7 to 14) from five local townships participated in the first annual acting, dance, music and playwrighting workshops led by Broadway's most talented artists.

100% of proceeds will go towards funding future intensive workshops. In addition, thanks to a partnership with Keep A Child Alive, co-founded by Alicia Keys, BSA will also continue to conduct and build upon mini workshops held last January at schools, orphanages and child crisis centers in townships around Johannesburg and Durban.

BSA sponsors include Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
