As previously announced, Esa-Pekka Salonen will conduct the three MET Orchestra at Carnegie Hall concerts scheduled for May and June 2017, replacing the originally announced James Levine. The programs have been revised to place a greater emphasis on the vocal works of Mahler. Additions to the programs include mezzo-soprano Karen Cargill and tenor Stuart Skelton, who will be singing Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde, and mezzo-soprano Anne Sofie Von Otter, who will be singing Mahler's Kindertotenlieder.

The repertory and soloists for the May 31 concert-an all-Mahler program featuring soloists Susan Graham and Matthew Polenzani in lieder from Des Knaben Wunderhorn, and a performance of Symphony No. 1-remains unchanged.

The June 3 concert will no longer feature Maurizio Pollini performing Brahms's Piano Concerto No. 1 in D Minor. Pollini decided against giving one of his rare concerto performances when his longtime collaborator Levine withdrew from conducting the concert.

The June 3 concert program will now be Schumann's Symphony No. 3 in E Flat, "Rhenish" (as previously announced), followed by Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde, with soloists Karen Cargill and Stuart Skelton.

The June 6 concert will now begin with Mahler's Blumine, followed by Sibelius's Violin Concerto in D Minor with soloist Christian Tetzlaff. The second half of the program will feature Mahler's Kindertotenlieder, with soloist Anne Sofie Von Otter, and conclude with Sibelius's Symphony No. 7 in C.
