City Stories 2018 Benefits University Settlement

'City Stories 2018,' an annual performance event benefiting University Settlement, will be held on Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at 6 p.m. at the Bowery Ballroom, 6 Delancey St, New York. This year, the event will highlight the artists and community members of the Lower East Side.

The 2018-19 Artists-In-Residence will perform at the historic venue. Creative Traffic Flow (Jeesun Choi, Kristin Rose Kelly, Dawn Crandell), Culinary Theater (Brandon Woolf, Ben Gassman), Sophia Dawson, Jesca Prudencio, the hip-hop group Soul Inscribed and Gotham Dance Theater will present. The innovative performances will take place in different parts of the Bowery Ballroom, giving the attendees an immersive experience of the city narratives.

Creative Traffic Flow will present 'Duets of Difference,' a dance theater performance created to resist polarization and encourage empathetic listening. It has been devised through community workshops and a residency at the Houston Street Center. This performance will give the public an opportunity to see how two strangers unlike each other in age, identity, faith, and culture can come together to foster a deeper understanding of themselves and each other.

Culinary Theater will showcase its latest development in exploring communal cooking and eating as occasions for communication, intimate encounter.

Sophia Dawson will share 'The Visit,' which explores the personal and collective experiences of different families and created a dialogue around a subject that is often considered taboo.

Jesca Prudencio will present a piece intersecting testimony, media, and Noh dance to explore the mask women wear to survive harassment.

University Settlement has always been committed to providing support to communities and families. Through the programs, it impacts 40,000 New Yorkers every year.

Come and learn more about how the organization helps change lives for the citizens of New York City.
