COME BACK HOME to Make Edinburgh Fringe Debut from Meadows Award-Winner Fadi Murad

Fadi Murad will return to Edinburgh with the full-length version of his solo theatre piece Come Back Home. The work was first shown as an excerpt in Welcome to the Fringe Palestine in 2025. Murad is also the winner of this year's Summerhall's Meadows Award. Performances will run Thu 6 - Mon 31 Aug.

Come Back Home looks at grief and how the past stays with us. It explores feelings of fear, self-doubt, and uncertainty, using humour, surreal moments, and dream-like logic.

Using text, video, and sound, Murad reflects on how loss shapes who we are, what we hope for, and what ‘home' really means. The performance moves between humour and emotional release, revealing vulnerability, contradiction, and tenderness.

At the centre of the piece is a personal memory: Murad as a nine-year-old singing ‘Mad World' at his mother's memorial. This moment brings together childhood, Western pop culture and Palestinian heritage and forms the emotional core of the work.

While deeply personal, the piece is also connected to life in Palestine today. It shows how everyday realities - such as restrictions, checkpoints, and uncertainty - affect even the most private emotional experiences. Through fragmented storytelling, Murad asks how we hold onto a sense of self when the idea of ‘home' is unstable.

Designed as an intimate experience, COME BACK HOME invites the audience to inhabit the contradictions of a life shaped by both profound love and political erasure. It is a meditation on the persistence of home in a landscape that is constantly being redrawn.
