SNAIL TRAIL Will Come to Edinburgh Fringe
The solo show, written and performed by Bi-Curious George, will play Pleasance Below at the Courtyard.
Bi-Curious George will present Snail Trail, an exploration and celebration of nature's links to Queerness and Transness through the lens of snails. Performances will run at Pleasance Below, Courtyard, 5 – 31 Aug.
Drawing on personal experiences of hormone therapy and transitioning, drag king Bi-Curious George dips in and out of a snail costume to delve into trans-masculinity and how Queerness and Transness are as natural as anything in the wild. Along the way, the show weaves in fascinating snail facts - including the revelation that, as hermaphrodites, both partners can carry eggs if they inject each other with a ‘love dart' full of hormones - and draws tender parallels between snails and the lived experiences of queer and trans communities. Snail Trail ultimately asks why, if we greet the animal kingdom with wonder and curiosity, do we struggle to extend that same generosity to our fellow humans?
Bi-Curious George said, “Snail Trail continues the exploration of queerness and trans-ness in nature which I began in Queer Planet, but this show is much more personal. It's an exploration of a journey which I'm very much currently still on - figuring it all out and shifting and changing in front of, and with the audience. At a time when the trans community is so often othered and even demonised, I wanted to show the soft, gentle, joyous side of our lives and remind everyone that we are just people, with all the doubts and mess and confusion that comes with that. All while in a snail costume, naturally.”
