'Broadwaysted' Gets in the March Madness Spirit by Bracketing the Bros' Favorite Musicals
It's "March Madness"--that time of the year when all of our sportsball-obsessed friends start filling out brackets and making predictions about who will end up winning the College Sportsball Cup...or something.
Well, while Game Master Kimberly was off celebrating the anniversary of marrying #EnemyoftheShow Jay Schmidt, Broadwaysted Bros Bryan and Kevin decided theatre kids should get in on the "Madness."
On this week's episode, over a Broadwaysted Bro Brunch where the margaritas and mimosas flow, we create an EPIC "March Musical Madness" Bracket stacked with 16 of the greatest musicals we could come up with off the top of our heads.
A Few Notes: The first round pairings were completely random, the use of East and West was a nod to sportsball brackets (and maybe Elphaba and Nessarose). and the placement of West Side Story in the East Side was a happy accident that we giggled about and decided to keep.
To determine a winner of each individual match-up, we considered three things:
1. Score (Music and Lyrics)
3. Importance to Us Personally
We realize these three things are completely subjective and you can argue the merits of all of these shows--and we do! Kevin and Bryan go in depth in their analysis of each show as, round after round, incredible musicals fall in their quest for glory in the tournament. In the end, we crown one show victorious; the One Show to Rule Them All! Along the way, we also talk about Kevin's "Journey to the Past" seeing Anastasia and Bryan's emotional experience seeing the new production of Angels in America.
It's a fun time all the way down to the final buzzer (Sportsball reference!) and with this template of our bracket, you can play along and shout about how wrong you think we are as you listen in to this week's "March Musical Madness" Broadwaysted!
