BroadwayWorld Launches Six Degrees of Broadway

Ever wondered how few Broadway credits separate Audra McDonald from Idina Menzel, or whether two stars who never shared a bill are still only one person apart? Now you can find out. BroadwayWorld has launched Six Degrees of Broadway, its latest new free daily game that asks you to guess how many degrees of separation stand between two Broadway people, then try to build the credit chain yourself. A beta explorer is also live on people pages, so you can start from any performer’s or creative’s profile and connect them to someone else.

How the Daily Game Works

Each day, we pair two Broadway names. Round one is simple: guess the degrees of separation, from 0 to 6.

0 means they shared a Broadway credit. 1 means one person links them. The trail can run as far as 6 people in between.

Then comes round two: fill in the chain. Name the people you think connect today’s pair, skip the path if you’d rather see the answer, or switch to multiple choice if you want a hint. When you lock in your guess, we reveal a shortest path through real Broadway credits, and you can tap through alternate routes when more than one chain is equally short.

Explore Any Two People

The daily puzzle is only the start. On the same page you can search any two Broadway performers or creatives and we’ll trace the shortest credit paths between them. Sample pairings are there if you want a quick try: Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Audra McDonald, Sutton Foster and Hugh Jackman, and more.

Every connection is shareable, so you can send a friend the chain you just uncovered.

Six Degrees is also built into BroadwayWorld people pages as a beta feature. Open a profile, tap Six Degrees, and that person is already your starting point. Search another star or creative, hit Connect, and you’ll see how many degrees separate them, plus the Broadway shows and roles that make up the chain.

From there you can share the connection, try another path, download a card, or jump to the full Six Degrees page to keep exploring. Paths are drawn from Broadway productions only: performers plus core creatives such as directors, choreographers, composers, lyricists, and music directors. If two people never overlapped on Broadway, they may still be linked through someone who did.
