Brad Oscar, who will soon be seen as the wicked Mr. Applegate in Damn Yankees at Arena Stage (previews begin on December 9th and the show opens on December 15th), will sing a medley of Christmas songs ("Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas"/"Count Your Blessings"/"When You Wish Upon a Star") at the 82nd Lighting of the National Christmas Tree at the 2005 Christmas Pageant of Peace Opening Ceremony on Thursday, December 1st at 5 PM; the ceremony will be broadcast live on C-SPAN.

The lighting will take place on the Ellipse near the White House. President George W. Bush, along with the First Lady Laura Bush, will light the tree at 5:59pm

Oscar, who will be accompanied by the US Navy Band, will be joined by poet Maya Angelou (who will read a poem she wrote for the occasion), Ricky Skaggs & The Whites, singer CeCe Winans, Dale Kristien (who played Christine in The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway opposite Michael Crawford), Voena Children's Choir, and Santa Claus.

Oscar recently ended his return run as Max Bialystock in the Broadway production of The Producers; he also starred as Max in London. Before that, he was Nathan Lane's immediate successor in the role; originally, Oscar played Nazi playwright Franz Liebkind (and received a Tony nomination for doing so). Oscar also recently appeared in the Actors' Fund benefit concert of On the Twentieth Century in September. His other Broadway credits include Aspects of Love and Jekyll and Hyde, and he has also appeared in Forbidden Broadway (volumes 3 and 4) and the Actors' Fund concerts of Dreamgirls and Funny Girl.
