Bono, Spielberg, et al. Nominated for Gorbachev Awards

By:

Spiderman creator Bono and film legend Steven Spielberg are among the nine people nominated for Mikhail Gorbachev's 'The Man Who Changed the World' award. Other nominees include: Tim Berners-Lee, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Martin Cooper. Winners will be announced on March 30 in London.

Bono is best known for being the main vocalist of the Dublin-based rock band U2. Outside the band, he has collaborated and recorded with numerous artists, sits on the board of Elevation Partners, and has refurbished and owns The Clarence Hotel in Dublin with The Edge. He has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, was granted an honorary knighthood by Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, and was named as a Person of the Year by Time, among other awards and nominations. His music is currently being featured on the Great White Way in SPIDER-MAN: TURN OFF THE DARK.

Spielberg won the Academy Award for Best Director for Schindler's List (1993) and Saving Private Ryan (1998). Three of Spielberg's films, Jaws (1975), E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982), and Jurassic Park (1993), achieved box office records, each becoming the highest-grossing film made at the time. To date, the unadjusted gross of all Spielberg-directed films exceeds $8.5 billion worldwide.
