BWW TV: SHREK's 'NOT YOUR ORDINARY PRINCESS' Winners Make Their Broadway Debut!


SHREK THE MUSICAL announced the winners in the "Not Your Ordinary Princess" competition, hosted by Laura Laureano (age 14) from Ronkonkoma, NY won the opportunity to play "Teen Fiona" and Hannah Beatt (age 9) from Sarasota, FL won the opportunity to play "Young Fiona" on Saturday, September 19th at 8 p.m. alongside Tony Award-winner Sutton Foster in a performance of the award-winning SHREK THE MUSICAL. The role of Teen Fiona is regularly played by Tessa Albertson and the role of Young Fiona is regularly played by Rozi Baker and Maya Goldman.

You can watch Laura and Hannah as they make their journey to Broadway right here on BWW TV in this special documentary! The lucky winners were flown to New York to rehearse with Sutton Foster and members of the show's creative team, have a costume fitting, and appear in SHREK THE MUSICAL for one night only. The two talented young ladies sang "I Know It's Today" with Sutton Foster. All video entries were viewed by the casting department for the show, with finalists' entries viewed by Jason Moore (Director), David Lindsay-Abaire (Lyricist), Jeanine Tesori (Composer) and Sutton Foster, who plays "Fiona" in SHREK THE MUSICAL on Broadway.

SHREK THE MUSICAL features a book and lyrics by Pulitzer Prize winnerDavid Lindsay-Abaire, music by Olivier Award-winner Jeanine Tesori, and is directed by Tony Award nominee Jason Moore. The new show opened at the Broadway Theatre on Sunday, December 14. SHREK THE MUSICAL is an entirely new musical based on the story and characters from William Steig's book Shrek!, as well as the Dreamworks Animation film Shrek, the first chapter of the Shrek movie series.

SHREK THE MUSICAL tells the story of a swamp-dwelling ogre who goes on a life-changing adventure to reclaim the deed to his land. Joined by a wise-cracking donkey, this unlikely hero fights a fearsome dragon, rescues a feisty princess and learns that real friendship and true love aren't only found in fairy tales.
