BWW Blog: James Beaman of Cape Playhouse's 1776 - Meet the Congress!

By:

Meet the Congress!

1776 is a genuine ensemble piece. Yes, it's true that John Adams is the driving force of the play and has the most to say and do, but the collective life of the members of the Second Continental Congress-all breathing together in the epic book scenes that are the heart of the show- is what makes it work. And we have such a remarkable cast of talented men (our two ladies, Stephanie Rothenberg and Christiane Noll, are also pretty darn incredible)! In this vlog post, I interview all these talented guys, asking them what they all have in common with their characters. The fact that each and every one of them jumped right in and said something pithy or hilarious on camera will tell you a lot about the collaborative spirit of fun in our cast.

Casting, I've heard said, is 90% of the director's job, and in the case of James Brennan and this production of 1776, it's absolutely true. He has assembled a great company of unique and wonderfully talented individuals, from Broadway veterans like George Lee Andrews to brilliant up and comers like Jim Schubin. I feel honored to work with them all and to be charged with leading the show as John Adams.

As this goes on line, we are nearing the final weekend of our two week rehearsal process in New York! It's quite an emotional thing to be rehearsing this particular play during the July 4th holiday. And I am sure we are all very excited to head up to Cape Playhouse on beautiful Cape Cod this coming Sunday to begin our whirlwind technical and dress rehearsal process for our opening-THE NEXT DAY!! What a blessing that I am surrounded by such pros, who also happen to be great people. I hope you may be able to come up to see this remarkable production! If not, keep following the vlog for more from my adventure in 1776. Here's the playlist with all the posts to date:
