BWW Blog: Broadway in High School (No, It's Not HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL)

Hello everyone! My name is JuJu Jaworski and I am beyond excited to be a student blogger here for Broadway World and talk to you about theatre education in my daily life. In my high school, I am a part of my school's Theatre Guild and am on the Executive Board for theatre. Joining The Theatre Guild at my high school was easily one of the best decisions I have ever made. From the inside jokes at rehearsal to the hectic blocking during tech week to the adrenaline of the curtain going up on show night - there truly is nothing I would rather be a part of. For anyone who is hesitant to audition for their own Theatre Guild - whether it's community theatre around your town, drama club at your high school, or theatre in college - take a chance. Jump in with two feet and don't look back. The first audition is always the scariest but the people I have met through theatre - both at school and in the Broadway community - are some of the best people in the world.

Speaking of Broadway, I have been a fan of all things Broadway for years and have been lucky enough to visit New York to see shows and interact with actors numerous times. There is truly nothing like the Broadway community - the feeling of seeing live theatre and hearing the hum of the orchestra before your favorite overture begins or talking to a Broadway actor at the stagedoor and thanking them for all they do. It truly is pure magic.

Theatre education is such an important tool for us (whether you're a hopeful actor, director, producer, or playwright) and the amount of opportunities out there for us are endless. I have interned at North Shore Music Theatre (in Massachusetts) and gotten the chance to teach theatre and audition skills to young children. I have gotten to choreograph shows and assistant-direct for community theatres. I have been able to attend pre-college programs and learn about theatre and its elements from college professors. Theatre education is so important to aspiring artists. The opportunities are endless - you just have to take the next step and once again, jump in with both feet.
