BIGTAN & TERESH ARE DEAD to Make World Premiere at The Tank NYC
The biblical farce, written by Michal Richardson and directed by Bobby Matteau, stars Philip Feldman and Tiffany May.
The Tank NYC will present the world premiere of BIGTAN & TERESH ARE DEAD, written by Michal Richardson (PBS Kids, Sesame Workshop) and directed by Bobby Matteau (Juniper Tree, Do No Harm Ttheatre Ccompany), at The Tank NYC (312 W. 36th St.), June 8-10.
The apocryphal biblical farce was a semifinalist in the Jewish Plays Project's 2022 national Jewish Playwriting Contest.
When tragedy strikes, will you let fate define you? Or will you shatter the narrative to write your own story?
Bigtan and Teresh, two extremely minor characters from the Book of Esther, emerge from the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem to find themselves exiled, lovelorn, and pawns in someone else's story. Their witty tale explores grief, free will, the constraints of religious texts, and what to do when the walls of your book close in around you.
"This play was borne out of years of blazing ambivalence towards Jewish law, the diverging impacts of collective catastrophe on individuals, the paradox of safety promised by belief, and a complex faith in letters themselves," Richardson says.
BIGTAN & TERESH ARE DEAD stars Philip Feldman (Inanimate at The Flea), Tiffany May (The Imagine Neighborhood, "Written in Brooklyn"), Alex Vee, Malcolm Casey Pelletier, Erica Twiss, Anissa Naji, and Kit James; with scenic design by Alex Grover, projections design by Wei-Fang Chang, costume design by Jeremy Clayton, lighting design by Michael Rathbun, props design by Niko Gelfars, and original music and sound design by Lindsay Jones. Stage management by Emma Smith and Winnie Chiang.
BIGTAN & TERESH ARE DEAD is produced by Evan Feist (Broadway Goes A Cappella), Amelia Merrill, and Richardson and is presented by The Tank NYC.
Tickets ($23-$43) are available for advance purchase. The performance will run approximately 85 minutes with one intermission.
Performances will be held at The Tank NYC's 98-seat theatre Monday, June 8 at 9:30pm; Tuesday, June 9 at 7:00pm; and Wednesday, June 10 at 9:30pm.
