ARTIST IN RESIDENCE PROGRAM
2010/11 Artist In Residence (AIR) proposals will be considered in Experimental Theater / Performance only. Two awards will be made for the July 2010-June 2011 period. These two artists will join two Dance Artists In Residence. These four exceptional artists are provided with an artistic home base for a one-two year period giving them a tangible sense of permanence and place. Resident artists have the use of four spaces suitable for theater, dance and performance work and are offered up to 200 hours of free rehearsal space, a stipend, formal presentations of new works and works in progress, and administrative and technical support. Opportunities are also available to curate, teach in the public schools, and to work with BAX's student population.Applications are due in the office (not postmarked) no later than Friday, May 7th at 5:00PM.
SPACE GRANT PROGRAM
The Space Grant Program is designed to give Brooklyn based choreographers, playwrights, and multi-disciplinary artists the opportunity to create new work in a setting that is conducive to working deeply and exploring new territory. Awards are 70 hours of free space in one of BAX's four spaces. Hours are to be used in one of two grant periods. One grant period is a work period only and the other includes a showcase performance. Applicants may decide which grant period is most appropriate for their needs before applying. Awards are selected through a panel process. We actively seek artists who can demonstrate need for our space and the ability to work effectively. Artists who have received previous space grants must wait three years before reapplying. Applicants must be Brooklyn Residents.Applications are due in the office (not postmarked) no later than Monday, April 12th at 5:00 PM.BAX AIR & SPACE GRANT HISTORY
Since 1991, our Artist Residencies and Space Grants have served as the core for our work with artists. We believe that no single residency is the same and therefore tailor an individualized plan that incorporates each artists' experiences, goals and questions. Many AIR remain connected to the institution long after their residencies end - curating, teaching, and producing new work.
Visit the AIR and Space Grant pages for more information on these programs.
