Avenue Q, the smash hit musical featuring a cast of people and puppets, will begin its national tour in San Francisco playing Tuesday, August 7 through Sunday, September 2 at the Orpheum Theatre.

Avenue Q is the eighth and final show of the 2006-2007 Best of Broadway season, brought to you by Citibank, under the direction of Carole Shorenstein Hays.

"Avenue Q, the story about trying to make it in New York with big dreams and a tiny bank account, features a cast of people and puppets who tell the story in a smart, risqué and downright entertaining way," states press notes.

The show opened on Broadway on July 31, 2003 to great critical and popular acclaim.  Avenue Q went on to win three 2004 Tony Awards: Best Musical, Best Original Score of a Musical and Best Book of a Musical.   More than 1,500 performances later, Avenue Q remains one of Broadway's biggest and most enduring successes.

Avenue Q features puppet design by Rick Lyon, musical supervision by Stephen Oremus, choreography by Ken Roberson and music and lyrics by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx. The scenic design is by Anna Louizos, costume design by Mirena Rada, lighting design by Howell Binkley and sound design by Acme Sound Partners. The book is by Jeff Whitty, based on an original concept by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx and directed by Jason Moore.

San Francisco tickets will go on sale in June and more information will be available at www.shnsf.com. For information about group sales, please call 415-551-2020.

The Orpheum Theatre is located at 1192 Market Street at 8th, San Francisco.
