Ars Nova (Jason Eagan, Artistic Director; Renee Blinkwolt, Managing Director) announces an October and November lineup of FREE Out Loud readings of brand new work by Play Group and Uncharted writers.

Out Loud is Ars Nova's FREE ongoing reading series dedicated to developing new work by writers in Play Group, the company's residency program for emerging playwrights, and Uncharted, its residency for emerging music/theater makers.

Ars Nova proudly presents these readings in addition to the previously announced World Premieres of Jacuzzi, a commission by Ars Nova's Company-in-Residence The Debate Society (September 30 - November 1 at Ars Nova), and By The Water by Sharyn Rothstein, presented in association with Manhattan Theatre Club as part of The Writer's Room, their unique commissioning partnership. (Previews begin November 4 at MTC's Studio at Stage II.)

Out Loud Readings Coming up in October and November
(All readings take place in the Ars Nova Loft.)

Remote Viewing (Friday 10/10 at 4pm)
A new play by Play Group resident Daniel Pearle
Directed by Leigh Silverman
In the overnight exam room of an experimental sleep lab, the real work begins when the lights go off. A young researcher finds herself drawn to a troubled participant, and uncovers data where she least expects it. A modern love story in the unlikeliest of places, Remote Viewing explores the challenges we face when we surrender to love and find that some things can only be seen from within.

Teeth (Tuesday 10/21 at 3pm)
A new musical by Uncharted residents Michael R. Jackson and Anna K. Jacobs
Directed by Ed Iskandar
Musical Direction by Lynne Shankel
Adapted from the 2007 Sundance Award-winning indie horror film by Mitchell Lichtenstein, Teeth tells the story of Dawn O'Keefe, an evangelical Christian teen who discovers that she has teeth in her vagina. When forces conspire to destroy her, Dawn must decide which part of herself she will save and which she will sacrifice.

Zero Feet Away (Friday 10/31 at 3:30pm)
A new play by Play Group resident Brian Otaño
Directed by Mike Donahue
After a botched threeway, Max and Peter open their relationship to other sexual partners. While learning to navigate the terrain of mobile hookup apps, blurred boundaries and anonymous sex, the couple must learn to live with each other's changing ideals - without losing each other in the process.

Jacuzzi
by The Debate Society
Written by Hannah Bos and Paul Thureen
Directed and Developed by Oliver Butler
In the Marshall family's peacefully remote Colorado ski chalet, Erik and Helene are making themselves very much at home. So at home, they just might stay for good. At the edge of civilization, the lifestyles of the rich collide with the lifestyles of the aimless in the bubbling waters of a hot tub.
Performances run September 30 - November 1 as follows: Monday through Wednesday at 7pm and Thursday through Saturday at 8pm with Wet and Wild Saturplay performances, featuring post-show discussion with cast and creators and complimentary mimosas, at 2pm on October 18, October 25 and November 1. Tickets, currently on sale at www.arsnovanyc.com, are $35.
The Debate Society, Ars Nova's Company-in-Residence since 2012, received a commission and ongoing developmental support to create Jacuzzi.

By The Water
by Sharyn Rothstein
Directed by Hal Brooks
Hurricane Sandy has just ravaged the lifelong home of Marty and Mary Murphy. But the storm has ripped apart more than just the walls: with their neighbors too devastated to stay, the couple's beloved Staten Island community is in danger of disappearing forever. Determined to rebuild, Marty wages a campaign to save his neighborhood and his home, but when the Murphys' sons arrive to help their parents dig out, past betrayals come rushing to the surface.
With fierce compassion and poignant humor, By the Water reminds us that the very powers that tear us apart can also bring us together.
