Anton Chekhov's LADY WITH A LAPDOG Returns To Stage This Summer!

After a critically-acclaimed run at Theater For The New City, Lady With a Lapdog, With Jokes and a Happy Ending will return to NYC for an encore run at The Russian Arts Theater and Studio. Hailed by critics as a "deeply funny love story", this heart-warming, larger-than-life comedy celebrating the short stories of Anton Chekhov will play for nine performances at Pushkin Hall, located on the Upper West Side in Manhattan.

While vacationing alone in the Crimean sea resort of Yalta, a Moscow playboy quickly finds himself having another affair--this time with a young married woman who wanders along the shore with her pet dog. However, their lives are soon uprooted as they realize they have found true love. Interwoven around their romance are ten of Chekhov's most beloved anecdotes, including Fish, Death of a Government Clerk, Confessions, A Chorus Girl, Overspiced, A Little Joke, Daughter of Albion, Surgery, Elements Most Found in Short Stories, A Happy Ending and Life is Beautiful. Join the colorful carousel of eight colorful characters as they fumble through love and the beautiful absurdities of Russian life.

Director Aleksey Burago is a former protege of the late Pyotr Fomenko and famous for his work in Russian stages and TV, including The Hermitage Theater and Aleksandrinka Theater (Beyond Recognition), Moscow TV (Queen of Spades), Youth Theater (The Emperor's New Clothes, Stoned), Interatelier Theater (Fandor and Liz), and The Baltic House Theater (Camille). Among his productions in New York are Ah, My Dear Andersen! (New York Time Out Critic's Pick), Mikhail Bulgakov's The Master and Margarita, Wonder Bread (Winner of Best Show at the United Solo Festival) Uncle Vanya, My Uncle Chekhov, Avenue of Wonder, Crime and Punishment, Swan Song and Three Sisters.

The international cast includes actors Michael Dona, Roman Freud, Conor Andrew Hall, Luisa Menzen, Ariel Polanco, Tom Schubert, Lana Stimmler, and Di Zhu.

This limited engagement will take place at The Russian Arts Theater and Studio, Pushkin Hall, located on 165 W86th Street, between West 86th Street and Amsterdam Avenue in Manhattan. Performances run from August 22st to August 31st, Tuesdays through Saturdays at 8PM. Tickets can be reserved at www.russiantheater.org.
