Camile Velasco, the rising pop star who was featured on "American Idol," will headline A.C. Ciulla's upcoming production of Footloose at the Carousel Dinner Theatre in Akron, Ohio; the show will run from September 14th through November 12th.

Velasco will be featured with the song ""Let's Hear it for the Boy" in the show. "The Carousel, along with director/choreographer Ciulla, Tony-nominated choreographer for Footloose on Broadway, put its own spin on this musical by adding a rock concert quality to the production," state production notes. The show will also be updated from the eighties (of the film) to the present day.

With a book by Dean Pitchford and Walter Bobbie (adapted from Pitchford's screenplay for the much-loved film on which the musical is based), lyrics by Pitchford and music by Tom Snow, Footloose is set "somewhere in the heartland of America in the recent past" and concerns the attemps of a group of teens to dance their way out of the restrictions of square parents. Additional songs were written by Kenny Loggins, Jim Steinman, Sammy Hagar and Eric Carmen, and the show was directed by Bobbie.

Velasco was a top-ten finalist on the third season of ""American Idol;"" she was also part of the 48 city tour. She recently signed with Universal Motown Records Group and is currently working on writing and recording songs for her first album. Her debut single is titled "Hangin' On."
