Alliance for the Arts Report Shows 80% of Nonprofit Groups Cutting Back

Not a surprise in these current economic times, but a new report from the Alliance for the Arts, reported on by Crain's New York Business shows some grim news for nonprofit groups with nearly 80% having or planning to make cuts.

Nearly 50% are said to be cancelling programs, with 42% laying off employees and 68% having a hiring freeze in place according to a survey of 96 groups, with budgets ranging from $1 to $50 million dollars. Click here for more information from Crain's NY Business.

The Alliance for the Arts serves the entire cultural community through research and advocacy and serves the public through cultural guides and calendars. We publish information on the arts and cultural events in New York City as well as studies highlighting the importance of the arts to the economy and to education.

As New York's Chamber of Commerce for the Arts, the Alliance for the Arts is doing its best to support the cultural community in this time of economic uncertainty. The arts are not just another needy sector, but an engine of recovery. The Alliance is at the center of this recovery; it has increased its advocacy and research to drive funding and policy development and to help nonprofit cultural groups understand and cope with the challenges before them.
