Adelaide Cabaret Festival: Stage Whispers Q&A- Eden Espinosa!

By:

On June 13 and 14, Broadway favorite Eden Espinosa took part in the Adelaide Cabaret Festival, performing at the Dunstan Theatre. In this world premiere performance, Eden took on some of the biggest hits from Aida, Ghost, Rent, Sweeney Todd and Wicked along with a few of her signature re-imaginings of popular hits from such artists as Joni Mitchell, Sia, Beth Hart, Eva Cassidy, and even Cyndi Lauper.

BroadwayWorld caught up with the Broadway starlet for a quick Q&A before her big Australian concerts:

When did you know that you wanted to perform for the rest of your life?

Performing was always something that was in my blood. A part of my make-up. But I honestly didn’t grasp the idea of performing in theatre as a profession until I was about 14 or 15. You could say the theatre bug bit me then there was no turning back.

If you could revisit one part that you've played in your career for just one night, which would it be and why?

This would probably be the opening night of Brooklyn the musical. I was on such a high and was so happy to be opening on Brodway in a role I had originated. Naively oblivious to critics, the good, and the bad and the ugly of the “industry”. I was simply living the dream.

Who are some performers that have influenced/inspired you?

I am always looking to learn and be inspired by people. This list could go on forever. Some are Bernadette Peters, Alice Ripley, Eva Cassidy, Celine Dion and my new found obsessions with Clare Bowditch and Camille O’Sullivan!

Eden Espinosa  is most recognized for her portrayal of Elphaba in the Broadway production of Wicked. She has also performed the role of the ‘green witch’ in both Los Angeles and San
Francisco to critical acclaim. Other musical theatre accomplishments include originating the title character in Brooklyn the Musical from the original workshop through its Broadway run, starring as Flora in the Reprise Theater Company’s production of Flora the Red
Menace, and playing Maureen in the closing company of Rent, the final performance of which was filmed live for Sony, and is available on DVD and Bluray.

Recently she has been seen performing with the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, The Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, and as a featured soloist with the Shanghai Orchestra for the opening of the new Shanghai Culture Square in China.
