A mystical experience coming to NYC this August! Huldra, an original play by Novelist and Filmmaker Babak Mehrabi Parsiyan!

Minor Prophecies announces the premiere of Huldra, a mystical theatrical experience written and directed by actor, novelist and filmmaker Babak Mehrabi Parsiyan on August 9th, 2018 at Torn Page Theatre.

Born in Tehran and based in New York City, Babak Mehrabi Parsiyan has been creating novels and films for over a decade.

Huldra is a mythical creature in the Scandinavian folklore. It's a tale about a woman who only baptized half of her children. When God visited her cottage, she was ashamed of her actions, and hid her unbaptized children. God then decreed that those she had hidden from him would be hidden from humanity- and they became the Huldra..

Inspired by the Scandinavian folklore, Huldra the play was an accidental experience that Parsiyan discovered when he hit a writer's block while working on the second episode of his upcoming TV series. "My experience with writing is like hearing a train coming, when it comes, I have to find a momentum to jump on and also the momentum to jump off." Parsiyan describes, "The train is my writing inspiration. Between where I jump on and jump off is the parameter of the story. The difference with Huldra is that when I jumped on I was completely not aware of the train coming and had no intention of jumping on. When I jumped off, I also landed somewhere I did not expect, but really enjoy it."

Huldra the play is very different from Parsiyan's previous work. "In film, you have the idea, you execute, and deliver it. The audience gets to receive it but not modify it. [With Huldra] the fluidity of the piece is what I'm amazed by. It makes me have tremendous desire to have other people see it and help shape it." Parsiyan explains "The whole play is very much like entering and exiting a dream."
