Dance is back at the 92nd Street Y with the fourth annual 92Y Mobile Dance Film Festival - the first in-person dance program since the pandemic shut 92Y's doors in March 2020. The MDFF - the only dance film festival featuring works shot entirely on mobile devices - explores the magic that happens at the intersection of choreography, camerawork and editing, revealing new dimensions in movement and offering intimate access and up-close perspectives on the physical and spatial dynamics of dance.

MDFF 2021 features three Official Selection programs with a total of 36 films plus a 17-film Student Film Program. All programs screen in person at 92Y on Saturday, July 31 beginning at 1 pm ET. They premiere online at that time and are available to stream through midnight Sunday, August 15. In person and streaming tickets are at 92y.org/mobiledancefilmfestival

The complete schedule is below.

An eight-member international jury pooled from 2020 Official Selection filmmakers chose 36 films as Official Selections out of more than 312 submissions from around the world, up from 152 last year. Countries represented include Chile, China, Italy, Malaysia, Nigeria, South Africa, Switzerland, Venezuela and the US.

This year's MDFF features a new Student Film category - with 17 selections from 91 submissions - and the inaugural Mobile Dance Film Festival Filmmaker Scholarship - an unrestricted $1,000 for one high school senior who submitted a film, presented with generous support from the Reed Adkins Fund of the Pittsburgh Foundation. The new Student Film Category selections are presented in a program of 17 Student Films chosen by the MDFF jury.

"Every year, I am blown away by the commitment and artistry of our Mobile Dance Film Community," comments MDFF creator Andrew Chapman. "This year, I am feeling especially humbled by the submissions in our new Student Film Category. After an extremely challenging academic year, these students created art - great art - for this festival. I am grateful for the opportunity to present their work and offer support to them and all of our filmmakers."
