A recent article from SoundSpike.com discusses seven jukebox musicals that are "trapped in theatrical limbo." These shows at one point in time seemed full of Broadway potential, but since, have all but disappeared.

Featured on the list were The Doors' "Celebration of the Lizard," which featured more than 40 Doors songs when it ran for two months in 2010 at the San Diego Repertory Theatre.

Pete Townshend, the Who's songwriter and guitarist, announced in 2009 that he was working on a new musical with surround-sound "soundscapes." Some of the songs from the project, titled "Floss," were supposed to be featured on a new album from the Who which was supposed to be released this year. Townshend hasn't said anything since his initial announcement on his blog.

In 2006, Berry Gordy announced that a musical featuring the music of Motown hits would receive its world premiere in 2007 at the Ahmanson Theater in Los Angeles, CA. After it was postponed for a year, it was forgotten after not appearing in 2008 or 2009.

While some jukebox musicals like "Mamma Mia," and "Jersey Boys" continue to experience widespread success, a larger number of projects haven't been as lucky, never moving from the regional stage.
