60th Annual Tony Awards Broadcast Receives Emmy Nods

The June 2006 broadcast of the 60th Annual Tony Awards was honored today with two Prime Time Emmy Award nominations.  The nominations were announced live this morning from the Goldenson Theatre in North Hollywood by actors Kyra Sedgwick, Jon Cryer, and Television Academy Chairman Dick Askin. 

White Cherry Entertainment, in association with Tony Award Productions, was nominated for Outstanding Special Class Program.  Marking their second nomination, Executive Producers Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss of White Cherry Entertainment previously won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Special in 2005 for the 58th Annual Tony Awards.  Kirshner and Weiss have acted as executive producers of the Tony Awards telecast for the past four years.  The Tony Awards are presented by the League of American Theatres and Producers and the American Theatre Wing.

In addition, Musical Director Elliott Lawrence was nominated for Outstanding Music Direction.  Lawrence is the past recipient of three Emmy Awards, in addition to twelve other previous Emmy Award nominations.

The Tonys are presented by the League of American Theatres and Producers and the American Theatre Wing. At the League, Gerald Schoenfeld is Chairman and Charlotte St. Martin is Executive Director. At the Wing, Sondra Gilman is Chairman, Doug Leeds is President and Howard Sherman is Executive Director. For Tony Award Productions, Elizabeth I. McCann is Managing Producer and Joey Parnes is Coordinating Producer.

Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss/White Cherry Entertainment are Executive Producers of the 2007 Tony Awards.  Mr. Weiss will also serve as Director of the 2007 Tony Awards.
