2014 ADAA Art Show to Feature Special Exhibitions & More, 3/5-9
Gallery presentations at the 26th annual ADAA Art Show, the nation's longest running fine art fair, will feature thoughtfully curated solo, two-person and thematic exhibitions by 72 of the nation's leading art dealers. The Art Show takes place March 5 through March 9, 2014 at the historic Park Avenue Armory, with a ticketed Gala Preview on Tuesday, March 4. All ticket proceeds from the gala and run of show benefit Henry Street Settlement, one of New York City's most effective social services agencies. AXA Art Americas Corporation has also returned for the third consecutive year as Lead Partner.
Featured Exhibition The Art Show committee is excited to announce that Ann Hamilton will be in residence during the run ofthe fair in Carl Solway Gallery's booth. Ann Hamilton will photograph visitors through a membrane that registers in focus only what directly touches its surface. This shallow focus, a consequence of the visual qualities of the membrane, emphasizes the point of contact and continues Hamilton's interest in finding visual forms for tactile experience. She first used the thermoplastic polyurethane film, known as Duraflex in The Warhol Museum's Factory Direct: Pittsburgh, a project partnering artists with industries. All art fair attendees are invited to participate. The images will expand Hamilton's UNUM series, and everyone photographed will receive by mail a small ephemera portrait of someone from the series. Framed portraits will be available for commission. Spoonbill & Sugartown Booksellers Visitors to The Art Show 2014 are in for a special treat as Spoonbill & Sugartown Booksellers of Brooklyn, NY will have a pop-up shop for the run of the show. Specializing in used, rare, and new books on contemporary art, architecture and design, Spoonbill & Sugartown at The Art Show will feature publications not only on the artists exhibited by the 72 galleries participating in the fair but also various artists represented by ADAA membership. The shop will be open during public visiting hours. For more information please contact Spoonbill & Sugartown at (718) 387-7322 or visit www.spoonbillbooks.com.
