One Step Beyond Celebrates 4th Season At AMNH

By: Oct. 26, 2010

One Step Beyond continues with its fourth season in November at the American Museum of Natural History, presented with The Fader magazine. During this ongoing party series, guests can dance in the Museum's Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Hall of the Universe to the sounds of the biggest names in techno, electronica, hip-hop, and indie rock.

Guests can also enjoy a complimentary screening of one of the breathtaking Hayden Planetarium Space Shows. November's feature is The Search for Life: Are We Alone? narrated by Harrison Ford. This breathtaking Space Show explores a question that has always captivated the imagination: Does life exist beyond Earth? A beer and wine bar keeps the party going. Each ticket also includes one pass to the Museum for future use.

November 12: Spoek Mathambo, headline
Rapper/DJ Spoek Mathambo has become an increasingly prominent figure in the international music scene over the last couple of years and is a front-man for electrorap outfits SWEAT.X and PLAYDOE. The 24-year-old recently finished recording his solo album Mshini Wam for BBE and has built a live band (which includes two dancers) with which he will tour.

Rainbow Arabia, support
Rainbow Arabia has been dubbed by The Quietus (UK) as "Fourth World Pop." Credited to avant-garde trumpeter/Eno collaborator Jon Hassell, Fourth World Pop refers to a style of music employing modern technological treatments and influenced by various cultures and eras. The duo's first EP, The Basta, inspired by the purchase of a Lebanese Casio that played microtonal scales and Arabic beats, blended bossa nova, electro-pop, goth/post-punk, and Middle Eastern music. This was followed shortly after by the release of Omar K 7 on Merok Records and, in 2009, their follow-up EP Kabukimono.

Activaire DJs, support
Activaire, devoted to developing custom music programs, blends the disciplines of design and architecture with DJ culture.
