Peninsula Players Announces 2019 Winter Play Reading Series

Peninsula Players Theatre announces the 2019 season of The Play's the Thing, a winter play reading series presented to Door County audiences.

Fully cast readings of the plays will be performed at Bj rklunden at 7590 Boynton Lane, Baileys Harbor Mondays, February 4, March 4 and April 1 at 7 p.m. General seating is available; no admission fee.

Peninsula Players Theatre is once again thrilled to bring arts programming to audiences in our traditional off-season," said Managing Director Brian Kelsey. A great variety of plays have been lined up by our Artistic Director Greg Vinkler for all to enjoy.

Past play readings included theatrical gems and new works that delighted community event attendees. We are thrilled the community has embraced these play readings and that so many patrons look forward to them."

Scheduled for Monday, February 4 is a reading of Apparitions, a Door County themed play by Kristine Thatcher. Apparitions was commissioned and premiered at the Players in 1995 and explores actual events and historical figures in and around Death's Door.

The reading of Apparitions is produced with support from and in coordination with Door County Reads and its exploration of The Death and Life of the Great Lakes by Dan Egan and Wintering by Peter Geye.

We are delighted to once again partner with Door County Reads and bring 'Apparitions' back to Door County audiences, Kelsey said.

The 2019 The Play's the Thing series also includes Tales of Men and Ghosts adapted by Steve Pickering from stories by Edith Wharton, which will be performed Monday, March 4 and Love, the Cracksman, a new fast-paced comedy by Mark Brown on Monday, April 1.

The casts for 'Apparitions, Tales of Men and Ghosts and Love, the Cracksman, are yet to be announced.

The Play's the Thing is funded in part by a grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin, as well as generous grants from the and Friends of Door County Libraries.

Door County Reads is in its ninth year, having grown out of the Library/Players partnership to bring The Big Read to Door County for three years. A full listing of events is available at www.doorcountyreads.org.
