The ADOBE Theater Opens PRIDE AND PREJUDICE, 9/14

As part of the Bicentennial of Jane Austen's great novel, a production of "Pride and Prejudice" will be staged at the ADOBE Theater starting Sept. 14th. This brilliant adaptation tells of the Bennet family that hopes to arrange profitable marriages for their five daughters. Leslee Richards (who previously directed the excellent "Rabbit Hole" and "Talley's Folly") selected this acclaimed play (by Joseph Hanreddy and J. R. Sullivan) for her next project, assisted by choreographer Judith Chazin-Bennahum for some lively dances. A large cast in period costumes will perform the play that will run through Oct. 7.

Fall means new seasons for the over 40 member companies of the Albuquerque Theatre Guild. Fall also means the new edition of the Albuquerque Spotlight on Live Theatre. Debuting September 5, 2012 at the official release party at the ACVB Business Exchange from 5-7 p.m. at the Barcelona Suites, 900 Louisiana Blvd. NE, Spotlight features information on ATG member theatre companies along with their performance schedules. The brochures are distributed at hundreds of venues throughout the city, including the lobbies of member theatres, visitor information centers throughout the state, hotels, retail stores, libraries, restaurants, and senior centers - anywhere theatre lovers will see them.

Comedian Vicki Lawrence's brilliant alter ego "Mama" Thelma Harper is back, eager to share her observations about political happenings, cultural trends and domestic struggles with the same spit and vinegar that won hearts across the land. Lawrence, an Emmy Award-winning actress, will also be on hand, dispensing her savvy humor and performance memories from her cherished time on The Carol Burnett Show (1967-1978) and in her own spin-off series, "Mama's Family" (1983-1990). FUSION Theatre Company, New Mexico's professional theatre company, has announced that playwright Eric Eberwein is one of the seven winners of FUSION's seventh annual short works festival, "The Seven". Huntington Beach resident Eberwein's work, "The Return Engagement", was chosen from a submission pool of 748 scripts from 43 states and nine countries. FUSION will produce the world-premiere of Mr. Eberwein's play tonight, June 7th through June 10th at The Cell Theatre in Albuquerque, NM. "The Seven" is the theatrical tentpole event of the Savor Albuquerque Arts Festival.
