The Albuquerque Theatre Guild and the American Theatre Archive Project present a one-day, interactive symposium on Saturday, October 27, 2012 in the Salon Ortega at the National Hispanic Cultural Center. Titled Recognizing New Mexico's Theatrical Past, Present and Future: An Interactive Symposium, the free event will take attendees on a tour of how theatrical performances have been a part of the lives of New Mexicans for over 400 years. It explores the role of New Mexicans in creating and preserving that history for future generations.

The Four Corners Storytelling Festival is a free, two-day celebration of tall tales. On October 12th and 13th in Farmington, N.M. professional storytellers will entertain families strolling by festival tents along the Animas River, folks on an evening out at the Totah Theater, as well as children arriving in bright-yellow school buses. This popular event is co-sponsored by the Farmington Convention & Visitors Bureau.
THE LION KING North American Tour Opens Tonight in Albuquerque

The Albuquerque premiere of Disney's THE LION KING opens tonight, October 4 at 7:30pm at Popejoy Hall for a limited engagement of four weeks through October 28, 2012. In Albuquerque, THE LION KING plays Tuesday through Thursday evenings at 7:30pm, Friday evenings at 8:00pm, Saturdays at 2:00pm and 8:00pm and Sundays at 1:00pm and 6:30pm. There will be a 1:00pm matinee performance on Thursday, October 11. "Albuquerque has received The Lion King with open arms," said Tom Tkach, Director of Popejoy Hall. "Though we have sold out of several performances, tickets may still be purchased, with weeknight performances having the best availability."

The group was born in December 1981 ('when Reagan was president and ketchup was a vegetable') when some Senate staffers got together to devise entertainment for their upcoming Christmas party. They came up with the novel idea of satirizing, to music, the very hands that fed them. And the rest, as they say, is history. . .

As part of the Bicentennial of Jane Austen's great novel, a production of "Pride and Prejudice" will be staged at the ADOBE Theater starting Sept. 14th. This brilliant adaptation tells of the Bennet family that hopes to arrange profitable marriages for their five daughters. Leslee Richards (who previously directed the excellent "Rabbit Hole" and "Talley's Folly") selected this acclaimed play (by Joseph Hanreddy and J. R. Sullivan) for her next project, assisted by choreographer Judith Chazin-Bennahum for some lively dances. A large cast in period costumes will perform the play that will run through Oct. 7.
