Popejoy Hall Presents BASKERVILLE: A SHERLOCK HOLMES MYSTERY
Acclaimed playwright Ken Ludwig captures the wit and intrigue of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's original novel, The Hound of the Baskervilles, with a hilarious twist. America's longest running company, The Walnut Street Theatre, stages this classic whodunit one night only at Popejoy Hall on Friday, February 23, 2018 at 8 p.m.
Ludwig's light-hearted adaptation of Doyle's classic, Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery, premiered in 2015. Baskerville takes the audiences on a sprawling journey through Devonshire moors, imposing mansions, and the dense, mysterious fog that engulfs London streets, leading to a surprisingly funny conclusion. The works of playwright Ken Ludwig have been performed in more than thirty countries and presented in over twenty languages.
Writer of eighteen plays and three musicals, Ludwig's accolades for theatrical achievement include two Tony Awards and two Oliver Awards. Dr. Sherlock Holmes stands among the world's most famous fictional detectives. He's earned a place in the Guinness Book of World Records as the most portrayed movie character in history. The Hound of the Baskervilles, written in 1902, is the third Holmes novel written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
The novel, considered one of Doyle's greatest works, receives high acclaim as a classic mystery.
Baskerville: A Sherlock Homles Mystery includes forty roles, all presented by five performers from Philadelphia's Walnut Street Theatre, the oldest theatre in the United States.
