¡GLOBALQUERQUE Announces First Confirmed Acts; Early Bird Tickets Now On Sale
This year, ¡Globalquerque! New Mexico's Annual Celebration of World Music & Culture, the Southwest's biggest world music and culture party, enters it's "teen years", celebrating a baker's dozen of years bringing some of the finest acts from around the planet to New Mexico!
With music that moves the body, ignites the mind and fills the soul, ¡Globalquerque! brings the world to Albuquerque and the Southwest on September 22 + 23, 2017, with performances on three stages - the sublime Fountain Courtyard, the expansive Plaza Mayor and the state-of-the-art Journal Theatre. Already confirmed are acts from such diverse regions as Venezuela, Senegal, Korea, India, Georgia and Estonia, bringing with them eclectic sounds that mix the contemporary (hip hop, rock, new acoustic), with the traditional. The weekend promises to be another spectacular cultural and musical trip.
The first 10 confirmed acts include legendary Malian griot supergroup Trio da Kali, Colombia's powerful, funky, fun dance machine Puerto Candelaria, the celebrated Indian slide guitar master Debashish Bhattacharya and the incredible unique South African guitar master Derek Gripper, Chile's rising star, singer-songwriter-accordionist Pascuala Ilabaca, the creative and incredibly raucous, bagpipe-led Estonian band Trad.Attack!, Galicia, Spain's legendary master folklore interpreter, percussionist Xabier Diaz, along with his 11-piece all-female group Adufeiras de Salitre, fabulous Afro-Venezuelian diva Betsayda Machado and her group Parranda El Clavo, the Korean "East Coast Shamanism" of Hong Sung Hyun's Chobeolbi, the polyphonic vocal splendor of Georgia's Iberi Choir and the exhilarating big beat, hip hop swagger of Senegal's Bideew Bou Bess.
And that's only the tip of the global musical iceberg. Many more acts will be added including what we hope will be a couple of surprises!
