A Musical Pinata at Teatro Paraguas

By:

Teatro Paraguas is delighted to invite you to their A Musical Piñata for Christmas IV opening December 9th and running for two weekends. This festive bilingual evening of live music, carols, and comedy is the fourth annual holiday celebration at Teatro Paraguas.

TP's musical director JoJo Sena de Tarnoff has formed a lively ensemble of musicians, dancers, and actors, ranging in age from 4 to 70. The evening will begin with a traditional Mexican Pastorela, arranged by Thelma Argüello and followed by traditional Christmas carols and villancicos in Spanish and English. Pastorelas are miracle play-like pageants that, with song and dance, celebrate the coming of the Light to vanquish darkness.

The show includes an original Spanglish version of a West End Christmas Albert story performed by Jim McGiffin, an original cast member of the now-legendary West End Christmas productions, which were performed in Santa Fe at The Lodge and other venues in the 80's and 90's. There will be several other bilingual poems featured throughout the show.

And the Claus family, of course, is expected to make an appearance as well.

On the theatrical side, Alix Hudson brings us the comedic romp of newlyweds celebrating their first New Mexican Christmas in All is Bright. It seems Burt, a clueless Midwesterner, will never figure out his in-laws' traditions of tamales and pastorelas and Midnight Mass. But with a lot of love, laughs, and compassion from their relatives, they make the perfect Christmas for the whole family.

At the finale of the evening, the children in the audience will be invited to help break a piñata on stage. ¡Dale dale dale!

Performances of A Musical Piñata for Christmas IV are Fridays at 7:00 pm and Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2:00 pm: beginning December 9 and closing on Sunday, December 18. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under.

Reservations may be made by calling 505-424-1601 or online ChristmasPinataIV.brownpapertickets.com
