State Opera South Australia presents a world premiere production of Humperdinck's Hansel & Gretel, inspired by the Brothers Grimm fairy tale and featuring cinematic storytelling, striking visual design, and contemporary operatic staging. The production is conducted by Artistic Director Dane Lam, directed by Constantine Costi, and designed by Jonathon Oxlade. The cast is led by countertenor Kangmin Justin Kim in his Australian debut as Hansel, soprano Sofia Troncoso as Gretel, mezzo-soprano Catherine Carby in the dual roles of the Witch and Mother, baritone Morgan Pearse as Peter, and soprano Lucy Stoddart as Dew Fairy and the Sandman. The Adelaide season is a co-production with Opera Hong Kong, with the production set to tour to Hong Kong in 2027.
