Calling South Australians to Apply for Churchill Fellowships

By:

The Winston Churchill Memorial Trust of Australia is calling for South Australians with a great idea and a passion to translate that idea into something that can contribute positively to Australia in their field of endeavour, to apply for a 2017 Churchill Fellowship.

More than 100 Churchill Fellowships are on offer in 2017 each worth approximately $25,000.

As part of a national roadshow a free Churchill Fellowship information session will be held in Adelaide on Monday 20 February at Thebarton Community Centre corner of South Rd and Ashwin Parade Torrensville from 6.00 - 8.00pm. Register to attend through Eventbrite

Hosted by the Churchill Fellows' Association of South Australia, this information session will provide potential applicants with all the information they need to build a strong application for the learning journey of a lifetime; travelling the globe to investigate a topic they are passionate about, whilst gaining the valuable international expertise to create or affect change for a better Australia.

Australians with projects in areas as diverse as agriculture, medicine, boat building, education, nursing, business, policing and Aboriginal art have all been awarded Fellowships in recent years.

Applications for the next round of Fellowships open on February 28 and close 28 April 2017.

For more than 50 years, Churchill Fellowships have helped Australians realise their potential, allowing ordinary people the chance to explore the best the world has to offer and bring new knowledge home.

CEO of the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust, Adam Davey, said that he is pleased that the National Roadshow is once again heading to Adelaide.

"This is a chance to learn from other South Australians who have been awarded Fellowships, to hear how they did it, what the experience was like and how it changed them," said Mr Davey.

"Just last year we announced eight new Fellows from South Australia, and we are excited to be returning to provide potential applicants with the advice they need to apply and answer their questions."

A cross-section of Fellows will be present at the Information Session to speak about their own experience of the application process and how this prestigious award has enriched their lives.

"It is a great opportunity to hear firsthand how life changing a Fellowship can be, as well as gain some insights into how to prepare your project for the application round opening on 28 February," he said.

"We have everyone from professors to plumbers apply and become Churchill Fellows - the key to success here is not based on academic achievement rather it is a vision to make a positive change in Australia with a method to get there and the Information Session is a great place to start."
