Rebecca Wolff and Sarah Gardner Borden Read In Honor Of 9/11

Rebecca Wolff is a mother and the author of three books of poems, including most recently THE KING (W. W. Norton, 2009) and a new novel, THE BEGINNERS (Riverhead, June 2011). The founding editor of Fence, Fence Books, and of The Constant Critic, she is a graduate of the Iowa Writers Workshop and currently a fellow at the New York State Writers Institute at the University at Albany.

Sarah Gardner Borden holds an MFA from the Warren Wilson Program for Writers. Her fiction and non-fiction have appeared in Open City, Willow Springs, the Chicago Reader, Literary Mama, and The New Haven Review. A self-proclaimed Brooklynite, scatterbrain, and mother, she is the author of GAMES TO PLAY AFTER DARK, published by Vintage Books in May 2011.

Each writer will have 20 minutes to present new work. The readings will be followed by Q&A centered on the balance of art and family life. Bluestockings Bookstore will vend books for signings. Pen Parentis Literary Salons are a monthly series of distinctive literary events which have won New York State and New York City arts funding and were nominated for a Neighborhood Achievement Award from the Mayor's office two years running. The public is warmly invited.

Sponsor: Pen Parentis, founded in 2009, provides resources to authors who are parents. In addition to hosting this elegant reading series in Manhattan, the organization's goals include a writing contest for new parents, public promotion of authors' works, inspirational panel discussions and support groups for authors who feel torn between family and creative genius, grants for child-care, and ultimately, a writing center that partners with groups that provide drop-off children's programming.
