Applications open today for The Old Vic 12 - an exciting opportunity for 12 exciting emerging artists to be part of Matthew Warchus' first season at this iconic theatre.

Following a bold launch programme including a rigorous selection process delivered both online, through Hiive, and in person, The Old Vic will select 3 emerging directors, 3 writers, 3 producers, 1 designer, 1 composer and 1 choreographer. The selection panel will comprise high profile, industry experts in each field with final selections made by Matthew and his team at The Old Vic.

Throughout the year, these 12 artists will gain paid experience in the theatre, both individually and collectively. These individuals will be encouraged to share their learnings through a series of 12 masterclasses aimed at artists at the very beginning of their careers.

To mark the end of programme, three brand new pieces of work will be created and then presented by the participants.

The project is generously supported by IdeasTap, who as part of an exciting new partnership with Creative Skillset's professional networking service Hiive, is funding a farewell programme of professional development opportunities. The Old Vic is delighted to be contributing to this programme through the Old Vic 12 initiative and extremely grateful to the Peter De Haan Charitable Trust for their financial support.

Kevin Spacey worked tirelessly to save the Old Vic from imminent demise and built the foundations for a sustainable and secure future, whilst investing in emerging talent. Now that the baton has been passed, it is Matthew Warchus' desire to prepare the theatre for its new ambitions, so that it can stand-alone structurally and artistically

His first season kicks off in September with brand-new play Future Conditional, starring Rob Brydon. Further productions will include The Hairy Ape, The Master Builder, starring Ralph Fiennes, The Caretaker, starring Timothy Spall and a new musical adaptation of the film Groundhog Day, with music and lyrics by Tim Minchin.

Matthew has invited a range of creatives to join him as Associate Artists during his tenure. They are peers whose talent he admires, and whose work spans across various artistic disciplines. They will have significant involvement in the life of The Old Vic during his time as Artistic Director, including project development and creative collaboration.

To date, these include: Simon Baker (sound design), Peter Darling (choreography), David Grindrod (casting), Manuel Harlan (photography), Rob Howell (design), Dennis Kelly (writer), Paul Kieve (magic), Drew McOnie (choreography), Tim Minchin (composer), Christopher Nightingale (composer), Kate Prince (choreography) and Hugh Vanstone (lighting).
