Theatre company Spymonkey joined forces with Kneehigh Artistic Director Emma Rice to bring their idiosyncratic comic surrealism to bear on the quintessential Greek tragedy for OEDIPUSSY, which ran Tuesday 10 – tonight, Saturday 21 April, 2012, at the Lyric Hammersmith.

Through the creation of the show, the four members of Spymonkey attempt to escape their destiny of romping through riotous comedy shows, but as Oedipus himself discovers, escaping one's destiny is no easy matter.

Written with long-time Kneehigh collaborator Carl Grose (The Wild Bride; Cymbeline, Kneehigh; Faust, Vesturport), Oedipussy playfully subverts the story of the ultimate dysfunctional family, using inspired storytelling and Spymonkey's trademark physical comedy.

The company includes Toby Park (Lifegame, Improbable), Petra Massey (Miranda, BBC), Stephan Kreiss (Hyperdrive, BBC) and Aitor Basauri (Señor Carrera's Rifles, Young Vic).

Tickets: £12.50 - £35. Bookings: 0871 22 117 22 / www.lyric.co.uk
