According to WhatsOnStage.com REBECCA The Musical, based on the 1938 novel by Daphne Du Maurier, could be headed to the West End in 2011 following PRICILLA QUEEN OF THE DESERT at The Palace Theatre.

REBECCA premiered in Vienna in 2006. The original score was written by Michael Kunze (lyrics) and Sylvester Levay (music), the authors of Elisabeth, Mozart! and Marie Antoinette. Christopher Hamton has signed on to write the english version of the show.

The plot of REBECCA, which adheres closely to the original novel, revolves around Maxim DeWinter, his new wife, and Mrs. Danvers, the housekeeper of DeWinter's Cornish estate Manderley who resents the young woman's intrusion into the world she shared with the first Mrs. DeWinter, the glamorous and mysterious Rebecca, who perished in a drowning accident. The music ranges from close choral scoring with a rising rhythm section from the pit to power ballads.

The complete original creative team consisted of director Francesca Zambello, Choreographer Denni L. Sayers, Musical Supervisor Seann Alderking, Musical Director Caspar Richter, Production Designer Peter J. Davison, Costume Designer Birgit Hutter, Lighting Designer Andrew Volle, Projections Designer Sven Ortel and Sound Designer Hendrik Maassen.

After its premiere in Vienna REBECCA played in Tokyo in 2008, Russia in 2009 and Hungary in early 2010.

An original cast recording in the original German was released in 2006. A live recording was also produced in 2007, as well as a Japanese cast recording and a Hungarian cast recording.
