Michael Pennington's SWEET WILLIAM to Play RSC's Swan Theatre in Stratford-Upon-Avon 10/20
One of theatre's most celebrated actors, Michael Pennington, presents his unique solo show about Shakespeare for one night only in the Swan Theatre in Stratford upon Avon for the RSC.
Following a critically acclaimed tour of Europe and the US, this show takes audiences on an illuminating journey as Pennington shares insights into Shakespeare's world, having spent over 20,000 hours in the company of his work as a leading actor and director.
Pennington says of his project; 'Shakespeare has been as present in my life as white noise.Sweet William - which I've been touring through the UK, Europe and the US for a few years now, is not just a daisy chain of Shakespeare's Greatest Hits, but his biography mixed up with mine, with performances of many unfamiliar pieces - Prince Mamillius, Pericles, Queen Margaret - as well as the justly famous ones - Richard III, Hamlet and Cleopatra.
'Ever since Macbeth knocked my socks off when I was eleven, I've been around the block with him many times, from Buckingham Palace to Her Majesty's Prisons, from the British Academy to dodging the rats falling from the rafters in Mumbai.'
Sweet William is an entertaining and informative master class for anyone interested in Shakespeare and plays on Sunday 20 October at 7.30pm
Michael Pennington is playing John of Gaunt in Gregory Doran's production of Richard II in the Royal Shakespeare Theatre which plays from 10 October - 16 November before transferring for a straight run at the Barbican in London. Further details on www.rsc.org.uk
