Juliet Stevenson, who is also set to appear in HAMLET as 'Gertrude' this season, will return to the Almeida Theatre stage in Robert Icke's adaptation of Friedrich Schiller's play Mary Stuart, opposite Lia Williams, beginning December 2nd.

In a fun twist, the Daily Mail writes that the duo will flip a coin nightly to decide who will play the role of 'Mary' and who will take on the part of 'Elizabeth' in the story of Mary, Queen of Scots's last days.

In light of recent political developments in the UK (i.e. BREXIT), the Almeida's Artistic Director Rupert Goold told the Mail the production "has something to say about our national identity...and about our relationship with Europe."

Folk singer-songwriter and musician Laura Marling will compose the music for the production.

Olivier Award winner Juliet Stevenson has appeared onstage in the UK in Happy Days, DUET FOR ONE, DEATH AND THE MAIDEN, YERMA, BURN THIS, LES LIAISONS DANGEREUSES, MEASURE FOR MEASURE and many more productions. Among her film credits are INFAMOUS, BEING JULIA, MONA LISA SMILE, BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM, EMMA and TRULY, MADLY, DEEPLY.

Lia Williams received a Tony nomination for her performance in SKYLIGHT on Broadway in 1996. Among her other stage credits include OLD TIMES, THE LADY FROM THE SEA, ABSURD PERSON SINGULAR, THE HOTHOUSE, AS YOU LIKE IT, MAPPA MUNDI, in the West End and on Broadway in THE HOMECOMING, and in the 2011 New York revival of ARCADIA. She is also known for creating the role of 'Carol' in the London production of David Mamet's OLEANNA.
