Many of Britain's favourite performers have picked up honours in this year's New Year's list.

Michael Crawford, who created the role of the Phantom, has received a CBE for services to charity.

Nicholas Parsons, the veteran actor, comedian and presenter, has also received a CBE for his charity work.

Dancer and choreographer Carlos Acosta has received a CBE for his contribution to the art.

Comic Sandi Toksvig has received an OBE for services to broadcasting.

Singer Katherine Jenkins, who recorded a version of Love Never Dies, has received an OBE for her charity work and contribution to music.

Actress Lynda Bellingham, who had to withdraw from the planned production of A Passionate Woman after being diagnosed with cancer, has received an OBE for her charity work.
