Understudies are the unsung heroes and the backbone of the theatre industry - and actress/singer Ceili O'Connor is a quintessential and literal unsung hero, having understudied in various productions for five years without ever actually having the opportunity to go on in the lead roles she has covered. Most recently, at the Arts Theatre's studio space, Above The Arts, she finally got the chance to showcase her talent in her own solo cabaret, The Understudy - Waiting In The Wings.

The iconic roles Ceili has understudied include Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz at The London Palladium, Jovie in Elf, Eva Peron in the Evita UK tour and Luisa in The Fantasticks at the Duchess Theatre and she has also played the roles of Polly in Crazy For You at Upstairs at The Gatehouse and Marty in Grease at the Ljubljana Festival in Slovenia. Her numerous concert appearances include performances at the album launch of Bobby Cronin's musical The Concrete Jungle at the St James Studio, The Roads That I Am Taking - the Songs Of Bobby Cronin at Birdland in New York and at Danielle Hope's recent concert at 54 Below in New York for the release of her debut album. Her album recordings include the Original London Cast recording of The Wizard Of Oz, The Studio Cast recording of The Concrete Jungle and the 2014 Broadway World Album Awards-nominated Words Shared With Friends.

The Understudy - Waiting In the Wings was directed by Scott Garnham and musically directed by Tim Evans.
