Promethean Announces Full Cast of THE LAST UNICORN

Promethean Theatre Ensemble is delighted to announce the full cast of their upcoming world premiere stage adaptation of the beloved Peter S. Beagle fantasy novel The Last Unicorn, adapted to the stage and directed by PTE ensemble member Ed Rutherford. In addition to PTE ensemble members Kyla Embrey (Our Country's Good, Six Characters in Search of an Author, The Light of Love), Derek Jarvis (The Light of Love, Measure for Measure), Nick Lake (Six Characters in Search of an Author, The Illusion, Measure for Measure) and Brian Pastor (Our Country's Good, The Light of Love, Measure for Measure), the cast will include guest artists Barbara Berndt, Jessica Cluess, Caitlin Costello, Beau Forbes, Christina Gorman, John A. Lewis, Jack McCabe, Paul G. Miller, Laura Skokan and Shawna Tucker.

Joining the design team are Roger Wykes (Set Design), Sean Campbell (Lighting Design), JeAnne Jones (Costume Design), Matthew Griffin (Sound Design and Music Composition), Matthew Cummings (Prop Design), and Kat Lieder (Choreography), as well as Bethany Schrader as Stage Manager.

The Last Unicorn tells the tale of the Unicorn: the most beautiful creature in all the world, immortal, and magical besides. When she hears from a pair of hunters traveling through her forest that she is the last of her kind, the Unicorn sets off on a quest to discover what has become of her lost Brothers and Sisters. On the way, she encounters Schmendrick, a well-meaning but singularly inept magician, and Molly Grue, a scullery maid with a sharp tongue but a soft heart. Together the three embark on a journey that includes harpies, dragons, witches, brigands, talking butterflies, and the most fearsome opponent of all: the Red Bull. Or so the Unicorn supposes. Due to a miscast spell, the Unicorn's worst foe may be the all-too-human form to which she is now confined.

Author Peter S. Beagle was born in New York City in 1939 and raised in the Bronx. He originally proclaimed he would be a writer at 10 years old: subsequent events have proven him either prescient or even more stubborn than hitherto suspected. Today, thanks to classic works such as A Fine And Private Place, The Last Unicorn (plus its sequel, "Two Hearts"), Tamsin, and The Innkeeper's Song, he is acknowledged as one of America's greatest living fantasy authors, and his dazzling ability with language, characters and magical storytelling have earned him millions of fans around the world. In addition to stories and novels, Peter has written numerous teleplays and screenplays, including the animated versions of The Lord of the Rings and The Last Unicorn, plus the fan-favorite "Sarek" episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation. His nonfiction book I See By My Outfit, which recounts a 1963 journey across America on motor scooter, is considered a classic of American travel writing; and he is also a gifted poet, lyricist, and singer/songwriter.
