The Parody MOMMIE QUEEREST Plays 6/5-6/28 At The Rose Room Theatre

By:

Uptown Players continues its 2009 season with the hysterical parody, Mommie Queerest, held June 5 - 28, 2009, at The Rose Room Theatre, located inside the S4 nightclub.

Mommie Queerest, featuring an all-male cast of four, tells the now-famous story of movie star Joan Crawford (Coy Covington) and her tumultuous relationship with adopted daughter Christina (Chad Peterson). This hilarious parody of the film classic "Mommie Dearest" revisits the film's most notorious and beloved scenes, from the infamous wire coat hanger episode to the chilling command, "Tina! Bring me the axe!" It's not just a spoof, though - it's a spoof with a twist, as it's Joan who has the last laugh!

The cast includes Coy Covington, Chad Peterson, Kevin Moore and Paul J. Williams, who play 25 characters in 32 fast-paced scenes, all in the span of 90-minutes. The production is under the direction of Andi Allen and written by Jamie Morris, the creator of last summer's smash hit, The Facts of Life: The Lost Episode.

Mommie Queerest runs June 5 - 28, 2009, with performances at 8 p.m. on Thursday through Sunday nights. Additional performances have been added on July 9 - 12, 2009, at 8 p.m. Performances take place at The Rose Room Theatre, located inside the S4 nightclub, located at 3911 Cedar Springs Road, Dallas TX 75219. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased online at www.uptownplayers.org or by phone at (214) 219-2718.

Now entering its eighth season, Uptown Players has gathered a dedicated following with an annual audience base of nearly 12,000 patrons, including more than 900 season subscribers. The response from the community and critics has been remarkable, including more than 25 Leon Rabin Awards from the Dallas Theatre League, several hundred "The Column" Awards and 14 Theatre Critics Forum Awards in its first seven seasons. Uptown Players has also been named the best theatre company by the Dallas Voice Readers in 2006-2008 and by the Dallas Observer in 2004 and 2005. Uptown Players is a 501 © 3 non-profit organization, presenting plays and musicals that challenge audiences artistically, build cultural bridges and strive to create greater positive public awareness and acceptance through the performing arts. There is no other theater group with this unique mission in the Dallas area.
