“Invigorating the stage with that elusive thing called joy” (New York Times), Spirit of Uganda creates riveting music and dance for audiences of all ages. A vibrant cast of performers, aged eight to 18, brings to life the sounds and movements of East Africa with the melodic tones of standing drums; dramatic choreography; bright, layered rhythms; and gorgeous call-and-response vocals. Ambassadors for Uganda’s 2.4 million orphans, these children personify the resilience and promise of Africa’s next generation as they promote awareness and raise funds to support themselves and others displaced in their homeland. With artistic director Peter Kasule as master of ceremonies, Spirit of Uganda celebrates the cultural roots and newer offshoots of this lush and diverse nation.
