The dance styles of Pandit Chitresh Das and Jason Samuels Smith are oceans apart. But when Das, a master of the Indian dance form kathak, and Smith, renowned for his explosive tap work in Broadway’s Bring in Da Noise, Bring in Da Funk, perform together, their styles converge in an original and groundbreaking rhythmic collaboration. Described as a series of “parallel monologues” that explore both forms without fusing them, India Jazz Suites is a blast of incredible speed and power, grace and beauty, epic storytelling, and the pure joy of dance. Accompanied onstage by a jazz trio and a classical Indian trio, the Boston Globe calls the show “a dynamic exchange of dance ideas.”
